Young Voices is an ongoing project sponsored by SHAPE in collaboration with Shippensburg Area School District English language arts teachers. The project involves young people in workshops in which they explore different ways of presenting their creative writing aloud and in the process realize the range of “voices” they might claim as writers and citizens. After participating in the workshops, students are invited to participate in a public reading of creative writing at the SHAPE gallery in downtown Shippensburg. Families, community members, and students attend the event, which celebrates the ideas and voices of Shippensburg’s young people.

The Young Voices project has enacted two cycles of workshops-presentations so far, in spring 2013 and spring 2014. Another Young Voices cycle is planned for fall of 2014…watch this space for details.
